SPRING IN CHICAGO - MY FAVORITE THINGS
When I left my house this morning I was so excited to be wearing flats with no socks, a spring jacket and sunglasses. This means Spring is here…hopefully. While I am sure we will have some freak March snowstorm that Chicagoans are all to familiar with, I am thinking positively.
As I walked to my bus stop, I started thinking about all of the things that I love about Chicago in the Spring. The following are three of my favorite things:
1. My most favorite thing to do is run OUTSIDE. Running everyday on an indoor track or a treadmill is boring and frustrating. There is nothing better than taking a run through the city as the snow melts discovering new things on small, quiet streets or checking out some of my old favorite spots. There is a lot of interesting stuff you can find while beating the pavement.
2. My second favorite thing to do is walk Michigan Avenue from top to bottom. When the weather is frigid and the bitter cold wind slaps you in the face, the thought of walking the Mag Mile is not very appetizing. When the sun is out and there is the slightest chill in the air, I love to stroll down shopping, grabbing coffee, people watching and lunching. There is nothing I can think of that is more Chicago…
3. My third favorite thing to do is eat outside. I am not sure why it is, but Chicagoans LOVE to eat outside. Not a novel concept by any means but we love it! I think it is because we have so few months where we can enjoy a meal outside. Usually I am either too cold or too hot. For me, Spring is perfect. The air is clear and a bit crisp making a glass of red wine, a fresh salad and warm bread the perfect treat. Because we are all so obsessed with the whole eating outside concept here, Chicago restaurants put a lot of time and energy into making their outside eating areas fun, pretty, and very inviting.
So for all of you who are excited like me put the boots, hats and gloves away and think Spring. If anyone would ever like to go for a morning run, shop on the Mag Mile, or enjoy a bite under the sun look me up – you know I am always game!
