ZAP Wanderlust: Estonia

Zapwater was retained by the tourism board to lead a press trip to the small Baltic country of Estonia from Sunday, October 16th to Saturday, October 22nd. The incredible trip included visits to three major Estonian cities and one island.

The trip began in the capital city of Tallinn, where the journalists enjoyed a walking and food tour of Old Town, exciting “edge walking” 175 meters above ground and dinners at some of the top restaurants in the country. The next morning, the group traveled to the small beach town of Pärnu. They stayed at the Hedon Spa & Hotel and experienced traditional Estonian massage treatments. During the day, the team took a ghost tour of the city and ate lunch at newly-opened Hea Maa. That evening, the team dined at the hotel’s seasonally-focused Restaurant Raimond with the town’s Deputy Mayor.

The highlight of the week was Kihnu Island. The team traveled by ferry to the island, where the mere 400 inhabitants still dress in traditional Estonian clothing. The residents sang and danced for the journalists, and following a tour of the island, the guide’s mother-in-law invited the group into her home for lunch. The day concluded with the opportunity for everyone to dress up in the colorful, patterned clothing.

The trip ended in Tartu, which is the cultural capital of Estonia and home to the country’s largest university. The team stayed at brand-new, four-star Hotel Lydia and dined at two of the city’s top restaurants, Chez Andre and Umb Roht. Overall, it was a fun and informative trip!
